The Beatitudes are some of the most amazing verses in the Bible. Jesus gives us the first set of instructions on how to behave as Sons and Daughters of Yah. The Beatitudes always comfort me on the hard days when I may have doubts. Yes, I’m broken hearted for my sins and I need your mercy and grace God. Yes, I tried to make and keep peace today. Yes, I’m thirsty for righteousness and I feel a deep urgency to be cleansed from my sins.

In this final verse of the Beatitudes Yahusha is calling on us to rejoice greatly! But not only to rejoice, it is the kind of rejoicing that requires celebrating as said in the Greek text. To be persecuted on account of Gods name is the greatest honor anyone could reach in their lives. It is the "seal the deal" ultimate price to pay for being named a Son or Daughter of God. Jesus said there is no greater love than to lay down your life for someone. What more can be said about laying down your own life for God?

The Apostles soon learned the importance of these Red Words. Peter was crucified upside down, and it is rumored that the Apostle John was boiled alive in a pot of oil before he was banished to the Island Patmos. All of the Apostles were persecuted and they all laid down their lives for Gods name for the exception of John, who escaped Patmos and lived to be 80 years old.

Our rewards become great abundance in the Heavens. The Beatitudes start off each verse with Blessed... Blessed can be defined as in the favor of God, or supremely happy. The Greek word for Blessed is Makarios. Makarios is an elite word (similar to the Hebrew) used in the Greek culture that described the richest of the rich in society. A poor man could not use that word. A soft man who is merciful or who makes peace usually gets the short end of the stick. Jesus is speaking to a crowd who is eager to wage war on the Romans to be set free from tyranny and oppression. They are not thinking about being merciful, or creating peace. They are not thinking about loving the Romans who are oppressing them. Yet, Jesus calls them to do it. I can only image the hearts convicted right off the start of this Sermon. They must have felt like Jesus was talking directly to them. This Sermon makes me feel like He is talking to me.

There is nothing new under the sun. A time is coming when worldwide persecution will take place. I used to believe that God would judge us based on how much we can suffer for Him. But I have learned that He will judge us based on how much we can love. Furthermore, He will judge us based on how much we can love through our suffering. Who in their right mind would love someone trying to kill them? That is what Jesus calls us to do. He calls us to suffer, to pick up our cross daily and follow Him. And then He calls us to love God and our neighbor just like He did.

He calls us to love our enemies and those who persecute us. Then, He calls us to celebrate cause we have made it! We are children of God and we will share His inheritance! Our reward in Heaven will be greater than we can imagine! So if you are suffering, draw closer to Him. He does not call us to prosperity in this life but the next. Here and now, we are to pick up our cross and follow Him! It is the path of His children to suffer in this life, especially on His account. So rejoice and count it as good that you are a child of God!
