King James Version Matthew 5: 17

Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

Strongs Greek Matthew 5: 17

Μὴ νομίσητε ὅτι ἦλθον καταλῦσαι τὸν νόμον ἢ τοὺς προφήτας· οὐκ ἦλθον καταλῦσαι ἀλλὰ πληρῶσαι

Mē nomisēte hoti ēlthon katalysai ton nomon ē tous prophētas ēlthon ouk katalysai alla plērōsai

{Do} not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come (not) to abolish [them], but to fulfill [them].

: mlmlt kiy baetiy l'hafer

Do not think that I came to violate the Torah or the prophets, never to violate, I came certainly only to fulfill.

Verses 17 through 20 recognize a very important detail that contradicts the teaching of many pastors and churches. If Jesus kept the law, why would it be dead? If we are supposed to live our lives as He lived His life why wouldn't we also follow the law? Jesus kept the Sabbath, He kept the Biblical feasts, He kept the Biblical diet...So what would make us think otherwise? Especially when we can see His Words IN RED declaring He DID NOT come to abolish the law. Pastors will lead hundreds of people in their church to believe they have no bound by the law and that they are only to focus on the grace of Jesus Christ.

Now, I believe this as well. But this is only half of the Truth. There is a difference between declaring the law dead and the law fulfilled. Never once will you find in all the beautiful doctrine of scripture the teaching of the law being done away with especially by the mouth of our Messiah Jesus Christ ~ Yahusha HaMashiach.

There is a fine line to walk here when it comes to following the law. Of course, we are not to go out and start sacrificing animals and stoning each other. This is Grace. Because of His Grace we are saved, and not by the law. But to follow the law is a product of His Grace and our Faith in Him.

This is the New Covenant in Jerimiah 31:33: But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

We are to live by the New Covenant. The New Law. It is not really a New Law it is the Old Law inverted and expounded. The New Testament is an inversion of the Old Testament, they work together in harmony. Neither is dead. I am so tired of hearing preachers teaching the body of Christ that the law is dead along with the Old Testament. All they have to do is TEACH WHAT THE NEW COVENANT IS! Jesus IS the New Covenant. Yes! It is His Grace upon us! And what is Jesus? Jesus is as the Father is, and that is LOVE. Love is the New Covenant.

Jesus declares this in Matthew 22:34-40 But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together. Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, Master, which is the GREAT COMMANDMENT in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Here is where we find the answer we have been looking for. The New Covenant all tied up into a few verses. Super simple. The Greatest Commandment is to Love God. And The Second Greatest Commandment is like it to Love Your Neighbor as Yourself.

Here we can look even further and see how this statement proves the law is not dead. Even the old law itself is not dead, it is written on our hearts and the Holy Spirit should be urging us and guiding us to follow our Fathers Law! How do we love God? How do we serve Him and honor Him? Jesus tells us how to Love God and how He wants to be served through His Word. John 14:15 If you love Me, Keep my commandments. and John 15:10 If you keep my commandments, you will abide in My love, as I have kept my Fathers Commandments, and abide in His love. The answer can be found in the 10 commandments given to us by God. To love God we must:

1. “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” - Exodus 20:3

2. “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.” - Exodus 20:4

3. “Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.” - Exodus 20:7 (In other words we are to live as examples of His Character whose example we can follow in Jesus)

4. “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.” - Exodus 20:8–10

Its very easy to see this is exactly how God commands us to love Him and it has always been through OBEDIENCE! It is in the Word! Why would a man get in front of a pulpit and say otherwise! To follow the second greatest commandment we have the same directive. God teaches us how to love others as ourselves through the final 6 commandments.

5. “Honor thy father and thy mother.” - Exodus 20:12

6. “Thou shalt not kill.” - Exodus 20:13

7. “Thou shalt not commit adultery.” - Exodus 20:14

8. “Thou shalt not steal.” - Exodus 20:15

9. “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.” - Exodus 20:16

10. “Thou shalt not covet.” - Exodus 20:17

Once again, we can see how the Old Testament and the New Testament work harmoniously together. Neither is dead. The 600+ commandments of the Old Testament are branched off from the original 10 God gave to Moses. If all the world would follow these 10 commandments there would be no sin.

Faith is the foundation of the law, and love is the fulfilling of the law. It always has been and always will be. In obedience with our faith we are to follow Gods Law in accordance with the grace He has bestowed upon us. True Grace is the ability to follow His Law! When we walk in Jesus and God has perfected His Love in us then we are under his Grace! Grace is not a free ticket to sin! It is the ticket paid for us to overcome!

When we face judgement we will not be judged for what we endured because of our faith, our good deeds, or what we give. We will be judged by how much we can love.

This week let us focus on who we can love, how we can love, and the changes we need to make to be in alignment with the True doctrine of Gods Word. The New Covenant!
