29. And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

30. And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

29. If your right eye causes you to sin gouge it out and throw [it] away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body [than for] your whole body to be thrown into hell.

The first thing I want to point out about these verses in this study is the word 'hell' once again. People get very angry when I say that hell doesn't exist because they read it in their Bibles, just like in this verse, and the previous verse we studied a month ago, verse 22.

The same concept in verse 22 is applied here as well. As you can see the Greek and Hebrew words for hell are both 'geennan' (Greek) and 'lgyhnm' (Hebrew.)

These words actually mean "fire of 'Gehenna' or 'Gehinnom.'" As I mentioned in our verse 22 study, Gehenna was a horrible place. It is a valley in Israel where most of Israel's adulterous child sacrifice to Moloch occurred. 2 Kings 16:3; 2 Chronicles 28:3

King Josiah later turned it into a valley of trash, feces, and dead bodies of criminals with no burial rights. It was kept burning continually to help keep disease at bay. 2 Kings 23:10

The fire of Gehenna was used as future reference for a place of punishment for the wicked. Sheol is the grave and is not hell, nor is it the burning pits of the lake of fire, which is the correct reference of Gehenna in this verse.

So the whole concept of hell, a place of fire and torment before the lake of fire should be cast out, and more research of the grave and Sheol should be considered instead.

In these verses Yahusha is not referring to the actual cutting off of your hands, or plucking out your own eyes. That would be self mutilation. Instead, He is using emphasis on cutting off what it is that is causing you to sin.

For example, your right eye could be a porn addiction, maybe it is lust. Maybe it is the movies or tv shows your watching. It could even be the music you're listening to or the amount of food you're eating.

The same goes for verse 30. Your right hand could be your best friend, or a family member who is causing you to offend. Maybe it is your job or a possession that you own. Yahusha is saying it is better to go without these things than it is to have them in your life, and instead suffer a portion in the lake of fire because of it.

Regardless of what it could be, we should not allow the influence of sin to lead our lives. It is extremely important to be set apart, and to set an example of the perfect Character of Yahusha for others to see.

This week if there is something in your life that is keeping you bound by your sin, try to identify it. Start working towards cutting it out from your life. Either fiercely or gently, whichever works best for your situation.

Sin holds us back from our relationship with Yah. He is waiting for you. He may have a message or a mission for you that He could use you for but is not able because we are serving our sin instead.

That's how Satan works. He wants to hold you back from your potential and your destiny. He doesn't want you to fulfill your purpose, especially with Yah.

Seek Him in your life, rid the sin from your way so your path towards Him will be straight and clear!

P.S. Many people are misinformed about studying these things. They think it is pagan or part of the occult. Nothing could be further from the Truth.
